As acupuncturists, we see how easily the mind can affect the body. We very often treat the emotions alongside the physical symptoms to resolve whole body issues! Guided visualization can play a major role in allowing the mind to enter into a more healthy and happy state where hopefully the body can follow. We recommend it often for all kinds of conditions from pain to anxiety and with much success.
Addressing the mind as well as the body can be particularly useful in cases of fertility. When the mind is calm, the body can better function the way it should to ensure optimal health and success. When the mind is under extreme stress and there is anxiety surrounding conception, this can negatively effect your chances and interfere with your quality of life. Acupuncture, diet and nutrition are among the ways to help support the body and mind but meditation is often the missing piece to the puzzle. We recently stumbled upon Circle+Bloom, a great website selling positive thinking meditations and guided imagery specifically for woman’s health, fertility and pregnancy. Several patients here at Earth and Air Wellness have begun to incorporate these meditations into their treatments and daily lives and are finding them very uplifting and helpful.

The path to becoming a parent can sometimes be a stressful journey but having tools like Circle+Bloom meditations can really help make the process more enjoyable and positive! And even if these Mp3’s are not for you, we encourage everyone to take time each day for quiet time and relaxation. Below is a simple breathing exercise to get you started.
Sitting in a comfortable chair with your feet flat on the floor, place your hands on your lap and close your eyes.
Draw your focus to your breath and take a deep, slow inhale for at least 4 counts. Hold at the top of the inhalation. Notice where you may be holding tension. Release the breath with the same slow intention and visualize the tension leaving your muscles, leaving your mind, leaving your body. Pause again for a moment at the end of your exhalation. During your next inhalation, visualize fresh, healing air entering your lungs and cleansing every corner of your body. Hold again and exhale. Repeat this for several minutes, lengthening the counts if you can, and keeping your mind continuously focused on the breath and the body.
Doing this exercise everyday can help train your body and your mind to let go of unnecessary stress and stagnation, promote the movement of qi, and cultivate your wellness!
